The Picture gallery in Barletta boasts an extraordinary collection of works by Giuseppe De Nittis the Impressionist painter who was born in Barletta in 1846 and became one of the major exponents of 19th-century European art. The rooms of Palazzo Della Marra illustrate the artist's life by way of a thematic itinerary which takes in everything from his experiences in Naples to metropolitan scenes from Paris and London depicted in their most modern aspects. His portraits of women are intimate and expressive while his landscapes transform the places he visited with their masterful depiction of light. As well as the permanent exhibition the museum also hosts many temporary exhibitions allowing visitors to admire works that are usually kept in the deposit.
